Why do I have so many spiders?

It never fails, come June/July, the spider calls come rolling in like clockwork. So, if you are reading this and wondering “Ya, why do I have so many spiders in my home?” Well, HowToPest.com is here to answer all your spider questions!

WHEN DO SPIDERS HAVE BABIES?

Because there are so many species of spiders, the most accurate answer would be that different spiders will lay eggs at different times throughout the year. That being said, most species of spiders lay their eggs in the spring or fall. For example, the Black Widow, Brown Widow and Brown Recluse spiders will lay their eggs in the springtime, but the Hobo spider and Orb Weaver will lay their eggs in the fall.

HOW MANY EGGS DOES A SPIDER LAY?

A female will lay anywhere from 100 -200 eggs per sack! When the warmer temperatures start coming around, that is when the eggs start hatching. Hence, all the spider calls in June and July!

HOW DO I GET RID OF SPIDERS IN MY HOUSE?

  1. Keep Your House Clean. And I’m talking P-R-I-S-T-I-N-E. Get rid of all dust, debris and clutter that you have in your house. If they don’t have a place to hang their hat, they won’t hang their hat in your place. Are you picking up what I am putting down?
  2. Make Your Home an Insect-Free Zone. Spiders feast on bugs and insects like mosquitoes and ants. If there is no food source, there’s no way to fill their spider bellies.
  3. Clear Out the Cobwebs. Unless it is Halloween, this is a no brainer. I mean, we’ve all seen or read Charlotte’s Web, for heaven’s sake. Get rid of the webs before the spiders start leaving you messages in them.
  4. Seal Up Gaps. Close all gaps and possible entry points that lead into your home, for example gaps around water pipes or outlets.
  5. Keep a Shoe Handy. No explanation needed.
  6. HowToPest.com No explanation needed here either, by keeping up a pesticide barrier around your home, you are ahead of the game!
